Regulatory sign
Maximum speed 50 sign
A white rectangular sign reading "MAXIMUM" above a number sets the maximum speed in kilometres per hour. 50 km/h is the default limit in cities, towns and villages unless another limit is posted.
When you see it
- ◆ The number is the maximum legal speed in km/h, not a target to reach.
- ◆ A posted limit always overrides the default for that type of road.
- ◆ Reduce speed further in poor weather, heavy traffic, or near schools.
