G1 Knowledge Test
What is the pass mark for the Ontario G1 knowledge test?
Quick answer
You must score at least 80% in each section -- 16 out of 20 correct on Rules of the Road and 16 out of 20 on Traffic Signs. Getting 5 or more wrong in either section means you fail that section.
80% in each section
The G1 test is graded per section. You need 16 of 20 correct in Rules of the Road and 16 of 20 in Traffic Signs. Doing very well in one section does not make up for a weak score in the other -- you must reach 80% in both.
Why aim higher than 16
Because questions vary, a comfortable margin protects you against a couple of unfamiliar items on the day. Aim to score 18 or more out of 20 on realistic mocks in both sections so a surprise question does not push you under the line.
Know your readiness before you go
A predicted-pass score from realistic practice tells you whether you are comfortably above the line in both sections -- not just on your stronger topics. Head to the DriveTest centre once your mock scores are consistently in the pass zone for rules and signs alike.
